OVERVIEW

Adopting healthy habits is something that has increased nowadays among people who seek to improve their health or maintain a fit body. Nutrition is one of the most crucial aspects of leading a healthy lifestyle. I designed Yum!, a mobile app in which people can discover and explore a wide variety of healthy culinary recipes.

"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison." – Ann Wigmore

THE PROBLEM

One of the biggest obstacles to taking this step is that people who want to improve their health do not know what foods to consume or what meals to prepare. Additionally, they believe that maintaining a healthy diet is boring and that the food lacks flavor. It also happens that people who follow a healthy diet get bored of always eating the same thing because they do not know what other healthy foods to consume.

MY ROLE

Research and Investigation

I conducted in-depth user interviews and designed surveys to understand the challenges and needs related to healthy eating. This involved preparing scripts, recruiting participants, and analyzing results to identify common themes. I also researched existing health and nutrition apps to pinpoint market gaps and opportunities for innovation. Based on these findings, I created detailed user personas to guide the design process.

Design

I developed wireframes and interactive prototypes using Figma to visualize the app’s structure and flow. The design focused on creating an intuitive and visually appealing user interface, including color schemes, typography, and icons. I ensured a seamless user experience by designing clear navigation paths and conducting usability tests to refine interactions. High-fidelity mockups were created for presentations and college project reviews to effectively communicate the design vision

DISCOVERIES AFTER INTERVIEWS AND SURVEYS

  1. Knowledge Gaps: Many users expressed a lack of knowledge about what constitutes a healthy diet. They were unsure about the types of foods that are nutritious and how to prepare them.

  2. Perception of Healthy Food: A significant number of users believed that healthy food is often bland and repetitive. They felt that maintaining a healthy diet would be boring and not enjoyable.

  3. Challenges in Meal Planning: Users frequently mentioned difficulties in planning and preparing healthy meals, citing a lack of time, ideas, and variety as major obstacles.

  4. Desire for Convenience: There was a strong demand for convenient solutions that can integrate healthy eating into busy lifestyles. Users wanted easy-to-follow recipes and quick meal ideas.

By using card sorting, the information architecture of the application was successfully implemented.
